Belly Dance By Niusha
Niusha grew up dancing ballet, tap and jazz. As an adult, she wanted to find a way to get back into dancing in a form that welcomed all body types and ages. She found belly dance and it was an instant love. She has studied with many San Francisco based belly dance teachers including Tatseena, Samira Dawn, Jill Parker, Elizabeth Strong, Amy Sigil and Aubre Hill. She enjoys traditional Egyptian style as well as incorporates fusion into her dance. Niusha grew up performing in dance groups and values the community and skills that group performances bring to enrich a dancer's life. She began performing in the belly dance troupe Serpent Sirens under the direction of Tatseena who creates both traditional belly dance performances as well as theatrical dance performances in the East Bay. Niusha then began dancing in a collaborative troupe made up of mother and daughter pairings called Rockin' The Cradle who also performs in the East Bay and has grown to include 3 generations of women dancing together in a collaborative form. Niusha then joined Shimmy Dreams directed by Samira Dawn and began to co-direct the troupe in the last year. Niusha is happy to now direct her new troupe Hip Logic and is excited to share group dancing with others. She is a member of the East Bay Chapter of the Qabila Folkdance Company, a company who is dedicated to sharing the joy and diversity of Arabic folk dance rooted on the strong belief that art can build bridges of understanding across cultures, ages, genders, ideologies and backgrounds and allow us all to belong.
